Dynamical scaling exponent z for polymer chains in a good solvent

چکیده
2014 The dynamical exponent z for a single polymer chain in a good solvent is obtained to order 03B5 (= 4 d) for the bead and spring (Rouse-Zimm) model. In the free-draining limit z = 4 03B5/4 + ..., a result in agreement with a phenomenological prediction that z = 2 + 1/03BD due to de Gennes. In the non-free draining limit, z = 4 5 03B5/4 + ..., which disagrees with de Gennes’ prediction that z = d for this limit, but which is consistent with recent experimental work which finds departures from the phenomenological predictions. Distribution functions in the interior of polymer chains
For a polymer chain in a good solvent, we calculate the probability distribution functions between an endpoint and an interior point, and between two interior points, by using exact enumeration to study a lattice self-avoiding walk model. We find that these distribution functions are different from the usual distribution function between endpoints. At small distance scales, the probability of n...
متن کاملUnusual swelling of a polymer in a bacterial bath.
The equilibrium structure and dynamics of a single polymer chain in a thermal solvent is by now well-understood in terms of scaling laws. Here, we consider a polymer in a bacterial bath, i.e., in a solvent consisting of active particles which bring in nonequilibrium fluctuations. Using computer simulations of a self-avoiding polymer chain in two dimensions which is exposed to a dilute bath of a...
متن کاملStretching Homopolymers
Force induced stretching of polymers is important in a variety of contexts. We have used theory and simulations to describe the response of homopolymers, with N monomers, to force (f) in good and poor solvents. In good solvents and for sufficiently large N we show, in accord with scaling predictions, that the mean extension along the f axis 〈Z〉 ∼ f for small f , and 〈Z〉 ∼ f 2 3 (the Pincus regi...
متن کاملScaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters
We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...
متن کاملHigh-precision determination of the critical exponent γ for self-avoiding walks
We compute the exponent γ for self-avoiding walks in three dimensions. We get γ = 1.1575 ± 0.0006 in agreement with renormalization-group predictions. Earlier Monte Carlo and exact-enumeration determinations are now seen to be biased by corrections to scaling. The self-avoiding walk (SAW) is a well-known lattice model of a polymer molecule in a good solvent; moreover, because of its semplicity,...
